About Us

Tufts Medicine is made up of Care at Home, Lowell General Hospital, MelroseWakefield Hospital, Tufts Medical Center and hundreds of doctor offices. We're a network of healthcare providers working together to deliver exceptional care with a personal touch.

A health system designed with you in mind

You can call on us when you need care that goes the extra mile. The names on our buildings and the neighborhoods we serve may all be a little different, but together, we're 1 Tufts Medicine. Independently, our hospitals are strong. And together, our health system combines the strengths of academic medicine and community care.

We see each day as a new opportunity to redefine what’s possible in research, innovation and care. Because everyone here at Tufts Medicine — from our doctors and nurses to our reception and custodial staff — is invested in a healthier you.

How we came to be

2014: Wellforce is created

Circle Health (including Lowell General Hospital), Tufts Medical Center, the doctors in the New England Quality Care Alliance and the Lowell General Physician Hospital Organization created Wellforce, the original name of our Health System.

2017: MelroseWakefield Healthcare joins Wellforce

On January 1, 2017, MelroseWakefield Healthcare (previously Hallmark Health), including MelroseWakefield Hospital, Lawrence Memorial Hospital and the Hallmark Physician Hospital Organization, joined the system as an equal, founding member.

2018: Care at Home joins Wellforce

On October 1, 2018, Home Health Foundation (now known as Care at Home) joined Wellforce and expanded its reach to create 1 of the largest home health and hospice providers in the region.

2021: An integrated network is formed

In 2021, our physician networks joined together to form 1 quality- and value-driven clinically integrated network.

2022: Wellforce announces name change to Tufts Medicine

On, March 1, 2022, we announced our new name: Tufts Medicine. Drawing from our close relationship with Tufts University and its Medical School we renamed our system and all members began sharing this identity in combination with their historic names.

Consumers have told us that they want more than the healthcare industry is currently delivering. They want an affordable, high-quality experience that anticipates and seamlessly orchestrates all their care needs no matter who or where they are. Our teams have embraced this challenge to reimagine healthcare ... and we have the greatest power to lead this change when we work together, side by side with a ‘one team’ mindset.
