Accepted Insurance

Accepted Insurance
We accept most major health insurance so that you can receive more affordable and comprehensive coverage. It’s important to note that each insurance provider may offer different kinds of plans.

How to check if you have insurance coverage

Whether your coverage is through your employer or is independent, double-check that your specific plan is accepted and what that type of coverage looks like.

  • Many insurance plans have different levels of costs for their members depending on where they receive care. Get in touch with your insurance provider to better understand what your medical plan covers and what you may need to pay out of pocket.
  • Check with your insurance plan to see if you need additional referrals, authorizations or both before receiving care at Tufts Medicine.
  • Emergency department doctors may not be in-network with all the insurance payors or plans listed below. Please contact your insurance company regarding coverage for emergency services at Tufts Medicine.

Financial assistance is available

Our financial counselors can help you with the financial assistance application and even help you find insurance.

Making a payment

We accept all forms of credit cards, debit cards and personal checks for payment. We no longer accept cash to cover costs of your copay. Going cashless for outpatient services allows us to better track how and when you paid for your health services. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

There are still a few places that will accept cash, including the pharmacy, Emergency Department and any dining options within our walls.

How to pay a bill

We’ve gone cashless

We no longer accept cash as a form of payment for deductibles, copayments or coinsurance that cover outpatient services within Tufts Medicine.

FAQs

Should I speak with my insurance company to understand my benefits?

Yes, it is always a good idea to discuss the type of coverage you have and the way your insurance company covers the cost of the healthcare services you receive.

The best way to reach your insurer is typically the number on the back of your member card.

My personal information has changed. How do I update this information in my account?

Please get in touch with us if personal information like your address or insurance provider has changed. We’re here to help make important updates to your account. You can call us Monday to Friday from 7:30 am–5 pm at 617.636.0084.

If I need financial assistance, what can I do?

Please reach out to our financial coordinators. We’re happy to discuss your options. You can call us Monday to Friday from 7:30 am–midnight at 617.636.6013.

What will I owe for a visit?

Depending on your health plan, you may owe a copayment, deductible or coinsurance. What you owe will depend on the types of services you receive and what is covered under your specific plan.

Some services performed in the exam room (scopes, biopsies, etc.) are considered surgical procedures by your health plan and may result in higher out-of-pocket costs.

We urge you to contact your health plan to understand what you'll be responsible for paying for your healthcare services.
