Shawn Fitzsimmons (pictured right), Class of 2019
Traveled to Malawi with Bridges to Malawi on their annual medical mission trip, which was led by an ED and orthopedic physician. The group brought two new ultrasound probes (which connected to an iPhone), and Dr. Fitzsimmons trained local staff to be able to use the iPhones as well as how to perform ultrasound.
Sara Cohen (pictured left), Class of 2018
Traveled to Cape Verde with the Rad-Aid informatics group, for preliminary assessment and survey prior to PACS implementation in Sao Felipe. They also brought a portable ultrasound to Mosteiros and provided diagnostic examinations.
Vera Mayercik, Class of 2017
Traveled to Korogwe Hospital in Tanzania during February 2017 with a group of volunteer physicians from Tufts Medical Center. During her stay, she offered diagnostic imaging interpretation, as well as a series of radiology-based lectures.
Elaine Shiang, Class of 2016
Traveled to Haiti with Merge Healthcare to establish a cloud-based PACS through their ultrasound department. They provided lectures, case-based teaching and board –review style lectures in GI, GU, Breast, IR and Neuroradiology. Two attendings led the trip and also taught ultrasound-guided interventional techniques.
