Fellows complete their training at Tufts Medical Center, a tertiary academic medical center located in Boston and the principal teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine. Graduating fellows are equipped with outstanding clinical skills in prenatal diagnosis, and medical and fetal complications of pregnancy. In addition, fellows are well-supported through their fellowship research projects in basic science, clinical and translational research.

Clinical experience
The Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellows will treat patients from diverse populations with significant maternal and fetal complications. Fellows will treat complex patients from Boston as well as patients who are transferred here from our 7 surrounding community hospitals. We work very closely with our referring providers to carefully select patients to be followed on a consultative basis, and those to be delivered at Tufts MC. With a labor floor predominantly filled with high-risk patients, with over 500 maternal transfers per year, our fellows gain experience in treating a broad range of obstetric complications.

Research
Fellows are supported in their pursuit of basic science, clinical, and/or translational research. Our fellows are encouraged to present annually at scientific meetings for numerous regional and national/international societies.
The Mother Infant Research Institute (MIRI) at Tufts Medical Center in Boston is a multidisciplinary basic science/translational research institute. In addition, the Departments of OB/GYN and Pediatrics have established a large team providing clinical research support for faculty and trainees.
As fellows work on research, they will also attend an Exxcellence in Clinical Research Course or a statistical/clinical research study design course at Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University.

Culture
Our departmental culture emphasizes integrating fellows as junior faculty as soon as they begin their first year – providing autonomy in their continuity clinic and on Labor & Delivery, while having a safe learning environment with a senior attending available for assistance. Our well-rounded ultrasound training prepares graduates to be fully-functioning attendings who are able to run an ultrasound unit themselves. In addition, fellows are provided significant opportunities throughout the 3 years to become proficient in amniocentesis, CVS, and fetal blood sampling. Our fellows have thrived in our culture of fostering independence, confidence, and clinical proficiency. After graduation, the majority of our fellows take academic faculty appointments and leadership positions in their department.
