HIP ATTACK-2 is a multi-center, international, randomized controlled trial to determine whether accelerated surgery for hip fracture in patients with acute myocardial injury is superior to standard care in reducing death at 90 days after randomization. Other outcomes include; inability to walk 3 meters independently, time to standing and weight-bearing, delirium, length of stay, pain, and quality of life.

Study details
Inclusion Criteria
- Diagnosis of a hip fracture with low mechanism of injury requiring surgery
- Elevated troponin on arrival to the hospital
- Over 45 years of age
Exclusion Criteria
- History of heparin use or taking an anticoagulant
- Patients with Peri-prosthetic, open, or bilateral fracture or requiring emergency surgery for any other reason
- Patients with acute myocardial infarction with a mechanical complication
Study Requirements
Total length of the study is 3 months, including one phone call 3 months from the date of surgery. Blood samples will be collected daily for up to 7 days after surgery or until you are discharged home. The total volume of blood collected for research will be 2 tablespoons.
