Training superior clinical neurologists

The mission of the Tufts Medical Center (Tufts MC) Neurology Residency Program is to train superior clinical neurologists. We aim to train individuals who will succeed in their professional lives and any endeavor they choose, whether it's patient care, research or teaching.

We provide training within a collegial atmosphere of mutual respect, maintaining a constant focus on the well-being of our patients. Our 40 faculty members from our 2 institutions, Tufts MC and Beth Israel Lahey Health, have diverse sub-specialty interests and skills and provide in-depth, personal training with a unified philosophy regarding the value of clinical medicine.

We focus on developing neurology clinical skills throughout all 3 years of neurology residency with a balance of bedside teaching and formal lectures, nurturing graduated autonomy throughout your training.

The location of our institutions and the reputation of our staff give residents exposure to the full spectrum of neurologic problems. Our residents gain extensive experience in community neurology and outpatient clinical settings while continuing to receive ample exposure to our traditional strengths of tertiary care and neurologic intensive care.

Apply for the neurology residency program at Tufts Medicine Tufts Medical Center in Boston and advance your career in neurology by learning from top doctors and surgeons.

We capitalize on our diverse patient population, broad clinical expertise, centralized clinical operations, world-class facilities, and impactful research activities to provide a customized training experience designed to launch your career. Taken together Tufts is an outstanding place to complete Nephrology training, and here are 10 reasons why:

  1. Educational Experience: Our world renowned faculty are dedicated to teaching and have a wide range of clinical and research expertise in areas such as chronic kidney disease, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, transplantation, polycystic kidney disease, cardio-renal syndrome, glomerular diseases, and much more. Our fellows receive individual attention from a devoted faculty and develop deep relationships that last a lifetime.
  2. Rich Outpatient Exposure: Nephrology care is primarily delivered in the outpatient setting, and we provide a particularly rich exposure in our ambulatory clinics. You will care for a diverse patient population with complex kidney diseases that include glomerular diseases, kidney stones, cancer-associated kidney diseases, rare disorders, and pregnancy-associated conditions.
  3. Robust Dialysis Program: One of the only programs in Boston that provides a  longitudinal outpatient hemodialysis experience and longitudinal outpatient home dialysis (HD and PD) experience. Fellows are exceptionally well trained in dialysis in general, and peritoneal dialysis in particular.
  4. Explore Nephrology Pathways: Tufts is able to customize each fellow’s training experience according to their unique interests and career goals. In their second year, fellows select a pathway for focused study and receive a curriculum specific to their interests with mentorship and individualized rotations. They complete the program with expertise that allows them to be leaders in their chosen area.
  5. Strong Mentorship: Based on your career path and interests, you work with a specific mentor to guide and support you throughout the program. This relationship lasts a lifetime; many of our alumni still work very closely with their mentors.
  6. Transplant Experience: All fellows have a dedicated transplant continuity rotations managing all aspects of transplantation, from initial evaluation of donors/recipients to post-transplant follow up.
  7. Teaching Experience: We prepare you to be educators by including you in the teaching of internal medical housestaff and Tufts medical students.  Fellows are encouraged to be small group leaders in the 1st year Renal Course at Tufts University School of Medicine.
  8. Emphasis on Wellness: Our division stands out for its collegial and positive environment. Throughout the year, we host many fun events for you and your families.
  9. Further Education: In the Clinical-Research Track, trainees have the opportunity to enroll in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University for a Master’s degree in Clinical and Translational Research.
